Sprinkler System Installation for Dry Oregon Summers
Zoned irrigation systems that keep lawns and beds alive through the summer drought without wasting water. Serving Portland, Salem, Eugene, and Corvallis.
Irrigation Built for the Willamette Valley's Split Personality
People who have never lived here assume Oregon yards never need watering. Locals know better. From roughly July through September, Western Oregon gets almost no rain at all, and the same lawn that squished underfoot in March turns brown and crunchy by August. Dragging hoses around every evening gets old fast, coverage is never even, and one missed week in a heat wave can undo a whole season of lawn care.
A properly designed sprinkler system solves the summer problem without fighting the winter one. We design systems around our actual climate: they work hard for three dry months, idle through the shoulder seasons with help from a rain sensor, and get shut down and blown out before the first freeze. The result is a green lawn in August and a water bill that stays reasonable, because every zone puts water only where it is needed.
What Goes Into Our Irrigation System Installation
A good system is invisible when it is done. What separates one that lasts from one that leaks and clogs is the design and the parts you never see. Here is how we build ours:
Zoned Design
Lawns, shrub beds, and vegetable gardens need different amounts of water on different schedules, so each gets its own zone. We also split sun and shade areas, because the strip that bakes against a south-facing fence needs far more water than the bed under your Doug fir. Zoning is the difference between watering the yard and watering the whole property the same wrong amount.
The Right Head for Each Area
Rotor heads cover large open lawn, fixed spray heads handle smaller and oddly shaped sections, and high-uniformity rotary nozzles cut runoff on slopes and clay soil, which absorbs water slowly. Matching the head to the area is what gets even coverage with no dry crescents or soggy corners.
Drip Irrigation for Beds
Planting beds, hedges, and vegetable gardens do best on drip irrigation: low-flow emitters that put water directly at the roots. Drip uses a fraction of the water spray heads do, keeps foliage dry so fungus and black spot stay away, and does not water the weeds between your plants.
Controllers and Rain Sensors
Modern controllers adjust run times by season and weather, and many connect to your phone so you can pause watering from anywhere. Every system we install includes a rain sensor, so the sprinklers never run during an April shower. In several Oregon cities that sensor is required by code; in all of them it pays for itself in saved water.
Winterization and Long-Term Care
Oregon winters are mild, but we get enough hard freezes to split pipes and crack valves that still have water in them. Every system we install is built with a blow-out fitting so the lines can be cleared with compressed air each fall, and we offer seasonal startup and shutdown service so you never have to think about it.
We also service what we install, and plenty of systems we did not. If your existing sprinklers have a stuck valve, a broken head, or a zone that stopped running, our sprinkler repair crew can usually fix it in a single visit. And when an older system is past saving, we will tell you straight, with a quote to replace it rather than a never-ending string of repair bills.
- Fall blow-out clears every line before the first freeze
- Spring startup checks heads, valves, and coverage in one visit
- Backflow preventer installed to plumbing code on every system
- Repairs available for systems we did not install
Why Choose Our Irrigation Contractors
Designed Around Oregon Weather
Systems sized for the July-through-September drought, with rain sensors so they never run in the wet months.
Zone-by-Zone Coverage
Lawn, beds, sun, and shade each get their own zone and schedule, so nothing is overwatered or underwatered.
Drip Where It Belongs
Beds and gardens get low-flow drip lines that cut water use and keep foliage dry.
Clay-Soil Know-How
We pick nozzles and run times that let slow-absorbing Willamette Valley clay take water in without runoff.
Built to Winterize
Blow-out fittings and proper backflow protection come standard, so fall shutdown takes minutes.
